Midfielder Thomas Partey could be left out of Ghana squad for next month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers amid rape allegations.
The 32-year-old is currently facing legal issues after being charged with five counts of rape against two women, and a charge of sexual assault against a third woman.
The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022 when he was playing for north London club Arsenal.
He was charged four days after leaving Arsenal when his contract expired at the end of June.
After appearing at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder was granted conditional bail.
However, Partey’s next appearance is at the Old Bailey on 2 September.
Despite the legal challenges, Partey has secured a move to Spanish La Liga side Villarreal FC.
With Otto Addo set to announce his squad for the Matchday 7 and 8 games of the Mundial qualifiers next month, Partey could be left out of Black Stars’ squad for the games.
The Black Stars will be hosted at the Stade Olympique Marechal Idriss Deby Itno on September 4 before hosting Mali on September 8 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana, who sit at the top of Group I after six games, will hope to continue their momentum ahead of the games as they aim to secure a fifth World Cup qualification.
